Kruhay! Hulagway

“Kruhay! Hulagway: Mga Trangkahan Sang de Kalidad nga Kaaram” is a project of the NCCA National Committee on Cultural Education in collaboration with the ARTIST-PARS Association, Inc.

About the Project

Utilizing various learning platforms in disseminating learning materials for Filipino learners, the Kruhay! Hulagway Project developed 65 culture-based self-learning modules (SLMs) and audio educational modules (AEMs) for radio broadcast from the 13 Regions of the Philippines.

NCR Region Output

Seeing that the NCR learners are active users of social media platforms, the NCR Regional Team headed by Prof. Tim Dacanay and designer and consultant Jean Dee saw this as an opportunity to distribute learning materials through popular online social platforms where Filipino teachers and learners can easily acquire and share SLMs and AEMs for classroom and personal use.

Zed Learning from home

Apart from rooting all lessons in Filipino culture, the NCR team collaborated to discuss the values and interest of the youth. The team realized the importance of creating life lessons from their experiences especially amidst the pandemic. This is how the heroine Zed was born. It is through her experience that we learn the youth’s predicaments, and how her optimism and excitement help her cope and move forward while learning from home.

Research & Creative Team

The NCR Regional Team developed modules for select subjects for Senior High School. Our select youthful team of high school and college teachers wrote self-learning modules and radio scripts featuring specialized topics they have mastered to teach.

Teachers PJ, Hershey, Ange, Zoel and Lara passionately shared their research, energy and time and even leveled-up their writing skills to produce self-learning modules and radio scripts. Lessons from Cultural Heritage, Space Planning, Language and Healing, Precalculus and Media Literacy were made into relatable stories for the Filipino adolescents to listen and learn from.

Through the guidance of college professor and playwright Tim Dacanay, the textbook modules were transformed into educational radio dramas. Radical to the NCR team’s approach, they tapped young playwright Buch Dacanay to provide youthful insights on how to best communicate and tickle the interest of the Filipino youth.

Actress and acting coach Wenah Nagales lead the direction and production of the AEMs collaborating closely with the Prof. Tim Dacanay and voice actors Nicole, Jasper and Bechay. This team of energetic actors were remotely facilitated by Wenah from Puerto Princesa City, to conduct online rehearsals and recording in their homes. Sound designer and editor Christel Manalo’s technical wizardry is what brought Zed’s teenage world to life.

The result of this 3-month research and creative project are now showcased and promoted through the Malikhain Exchange website, podcast and social media spearheaded by designer and consultant Jean Dee. Now Filipino learners and teachers can access these modules for free, 24/7 anywhere in the world.
